My Computer; Updated Pics

Figured id just post the whole setup while im at it.

This computer is responsible for pretty much all my entertainment and also allows me to do my job. Its pretty beastly even though its a tad bit out dated. I think its really important to have a very powerful machine if you're using it a lot and its a great investment.

PRO TIP: If you're thinking of maybe getting a new computer consider building it yourself. You'll save money unless you're just going to get some low-mid range computer from Dell or another big company like that. But when it comes to high performance and reliability, you cant beat a computer with hand picked parts that you built yourself, based on your own research. If you have absolutely no clue about anything computer related then maybe you should just stay away, but if you're really dedicated you can find all the info you need online.

Specs:
i7 920 @ 4ghz
H50 Cooler
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
3x2gig Patriot DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5870
850watt PSU
As for storage, 2x640gig WD Caviar Blacks for Storage and 1x OCZ Vertex2 120gig SSD for OS + most used apps.

  3. I'm buildng my own computer too! Yours looks nice, how much did it cost?

  4. I agree about building your own when it come to high performance computing. I ordered a few custom built PCs and they were good for the price, but you can save even more money if you just build it yourself.

  5. What do you think about the H50 cooler?

    My i5-750 is at 4.2GHz and is cooled with cooler master 212+. I'm thinking of getting a new cooler as mine under load gets up to almost 80C.

  6. outdated? try my laptop's specs:

    1.6GHz processor
    1GB RAM
    60GB hard drive
    ... I don't even know what half the stuff you're saying is!

    Hey, if you're interested, maybe you could post a mini-guide to building your own computer! That would be extremely helpful. (Or you could recommend one from the web.)

    Anyway, I'm done salivating at your specs just now. Keep up the blogging!

  12. it LOOKS cool but mine was as you said premade from a big company. My parents just started playing WoW at the time, now 3 years later she's going thru someone who custom makes them so I'll probably use him as a resource when I break out of my shell and get a real computer.

    very cool

  17. @ Araita & Alan
    I built it last Christmas(a yea ago) for about $1800

    @brotosterone
    the H50 is good and i like it,but it performs the same as other high end air coolers. Even though it is water cooling it doesn't have the same performance as traditional watercooling. It does look a lot cleaner in the case which is why i like it over air cooling.

    @Some Guy
    Might be a future post ;)

    @Rondariel
    Yea currently the 850watt is overkill but i was planing on expanding to another 5870. Just never got around to it and had other things to spend money on. I really want to sell this card and go for 2x 6870s.

    @IsoGame
    I like the i7 a lot, the overclocking potential is amazing, iv been running at 4ghz for 8 months now and the stock speed is like 2.6. The newer I series CPUs from intel are even better, i would definitely go for it.

  22. Also, DO NOT SKIMP ON THE POWER SUPPLY. That it the lifeline to your computer. Make sure to get an 80 plus certified PSU so that you don't risk losing your investment!
