So flash back to me restoring my old thinkpad, i installed xubuntu today just to give Linux a try and i must say im really enjoying it so far. Im especially in love with the fact that everything is free. The experience so far has been great and everything is alot easier then i thought it would be.
I think im going to try out Gentoo next, something a little more srs bsns. But seriously if you've ever been curious about Linux give ubuntu a try. You can try it right off the CD/USB or you can even download it within windows and not even have to partition your drive. Its really fun to move to something new and out of the ordinary after using windows for so long.
Ubuntu is seriously very great as a newbie's entry into the linux world. And if you're indecisive, you can always have both and dual boot.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's working out so well for you! I personally don't use Linux all that much.
ReplyDeleteI have always had a scary experience with Linux on my desktop.
ReplyDeleteBut got a linux server that I can ssh into so I'm learning it from there.
I've always wondered about Linux, Its good to hear you found it easy to install & run as I think this puts alot of people off, Its certainly put me off in the past.
ReplyDeleteIf you want some recommendations, try openSUSE, Sabayon and if you really liked Ubuntu, try Mint. And if you want to stay on Linux for good, install Wine in your system to get compatibility with Windows software.
ReplyDeleteCheers
I used Linux for 6 months some time ago, it's really good, you can customize everything in it, but I still prefer Windows
ReplyDeleteI've tried ubuntu and some other linuxes before but went back to windows for the software freedom and ease of use.
ReplyDeleteMy only experience with Linix was on my EEE PC. It was okay and did as I wanted, but don't see myself replacing windows anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteThis Linux is giving hardtime to all highpriced folks. My hubby loves Ubuntu and this may really overjoy him.
ReplyDeleteI would switch to ubuntu but I play too many games...
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about setting up a Linux partition myself.
ReplyDeletedo you need to know how to program or write code to use linux?
ReplyDeleteI've always been curious about linux. Where do u buy it at, online?
ReplyDeleteFree is always good! :)
ReplyDeletei love linux!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of Gentoo with everything tuned and compiled from source...sadly I'm proud that it took me 32 hours to do a full install once - but it rocked!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking this sort of thing up a lot recently and have become really interested, but I think the transition from windows
ReplyDeletewill definitely look into it, thanks
ReplyDeleteTry free BSD. You get a console. That is it. Love linux but it isn't good to game on yet.
ReplyDeleteLinux is the way, the path, and the light. I love it.

ReplyDeleteheh.. I've ran PuppyLinux on my old shitty desktop.. didn't have a harddrive or anything, but I could run it from a cd drive. Good stuff.
ReplyDeletelinux, I like it, BUT its not the perfect solution yet. if more software and games/drivers because open source it would be much much easier
