So if you live in Canada, you'll probably like to know that the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission) is cracking down on bandwidth caps across Canada. Unlimited Internet packages are quickly becoming a thing of the past as usage-based billing for Internet services is set to take effect in March.
If you have Tech Savvy like some of my friends, you most likely already got a email form them explaining that your 200g cap is going to be reduced to 25g!! That is insane, what could you do with a 25g cap especially if your sharing internet with a roommate. Of course this cap can be upgraded, but at additional cost.
Anyway i think its really important that if this issue will effect you, you should take the time to sign this petition on openmedia.ca (http://openmedia.ca/meter)
Already done. Calling my MP tomorrow.

Thus ended the age of internet pirates.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Question: is the cap an arbitrary one or does it actually cost them a significant amount more money the more bandwidth you use?
ReplyDeleteI have a cap with Comcast, but I think its something like 250 gigs. Looking forward to what you post in the future; following. Click my name to view and follow my blogs!
ReplyDeleteMan, I had no idea that Canada was getting a cap in place. That's like the first bad thing about living in Canada I've ever heard of.

ReplyDeletePoor Canada. That would suck to be limited.

In Australia you're a damn king if you have a 50g cap. 200g and unlimited plans seem like a dream to me now.
ReplyDeleteWorld governments need to focus less on cracking down on the caps and building more broadband infrastructure with the large IT community that's growing. I dunno. Might just help the economy or something.
Sounds like an Anti-E issue.
